Curious about how to make drama for the screen?

Our Filmmaking Foundation is a must for new entrants into the film industry, film enthusiasts, and for those who want to make their own films.

Guided by experienced filmmaking professionals, this practical, multi-disciplinary course provides intensive training in the various roles behind the camera including: directing, camera operating, cinematography, boom operating and sound mixing and recording. Shooting a number of films in a studio environment using a high-end HD camera you get to experience the latest in digital acquisition by shooting your film in HD with sync sound dialogue recording.

You experience the collaborative nature of filmmaking working alongside your peers, learning to combine technical skills with visual communication and narrative storytelling. Working in pairs, you write a short interior scene film in the London Film Academy studio with professional actors. An experienced editor will guide you through editing your film using Final Cut Pro. This practical exercise provides excellent preparation for learning how to write and direct longer pieces by building scene sequences and story events.

  • Experience of a variety of on-set roles on other students' films under tutor supervision
  • Learn about different digital formats, camera sensor sizes and the impact of lens choices, data rates and recording media, broadcast requirements, digital workflows as well as the fundamental concepts of cinematography
  • You will have explored the potential of a large format digital camera to deliver visual storytelling options such as differential focus and the sought-after shallow depth of field look.

While on the course and for one month after you will receive complementary membership with LFA networking Filmmaker's Club.
