Study Method:
The qualification is made up of 10 units of study that lead to the HNC qualification in year one, followed by a further 6 units of in depth study in year 2 leading to the HND qualification. The course is delivered in a combination of projects that set students particular themes of creative problems for their work and self initiated study reflecting students own unique interests and creativity.

Who the Course is For:
The Higher Nationals in Fine Art are seeking students who wish to undertake a course that is intensive and broad. In addition to developing skills within the areas of painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture, potential students should also be interested in developing knowledge of the creative industries. Students applying for this course should be ambitious, having motivation, resilience, imagination and enterprise and evidence of an interest in art and design.
Assessment:
Workshops, tutorials, lectures, seminars and exhibitions run throughout the two years of the course to support your studio work. Information technology and presentation skills are embedded throughout the course. Assessment is continuous and teaching methods include case studies, essays, presentations, assignments and projects. The course progression rate to employment, degree and MA courses is excellent.
Course Leads To:
After completion of the course, you may wish to progress to employment as a fine art practitioner, a community based artist or as a technical assistant. Alternatively, you may wish to undertake further study that will enable you to progress in related areas such as teaching. There is also the opportunity for students to progress to a BA (Honours) Fine Art course.

Content:
This two-year Higher National Diploma and one year Higher National Certificate have a vocational emphasis and enables you to develop your skills in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, lens based and digital media. You will also gain valuable experience in a professional context through a well developed professional exhibition programme. You will be given the opportunity to exhibit, promote and sell your artwork in external galleries and at the interim and Final Diploma Showcase exhibitions within the college.
The Higher Nationals in Fine Art put a special emphasis on the acquisition of skills in painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. It is practice-based and work-based. It aims to develop your creative potential as an individual and as a collaborator.
