Fine Art (Placement Year) : BA Hons : W101

Taught by academic staff who are themselves practising artists, historians and theorists, you will be able to study the Fine Art disciplines separately or through interdisciplinary practice. Lancaster Fine Art students have their own dedicated studio space from day one, accessible 24/7, day and night.
Our aim from the beginning of your course is for you to become an informed Fine Art practitioner with clear creative aspirations and ambition. You will achieve this through the integration of studio-based practice and the study of both art theory and history. So, the first year of your Fine Art degree will begin with modules including Fine Art Practice and the LICA-wide module Modernism in the Arts.
In your second year, you will take the core modules Studio Practice and Critical Reflections (contemporary arts theory), and modules in Professional Practice or Digital Media will be an option.
You will have the opportunity to spend Year 3 on placement with a public, private or voluntary organisation in the UK or overseas. This experience will boost your employment prospects and will help you to decide on your career direction and the kind of organisation in which you want to work once you graduate. You will be doing a real, responsible job – with all the satisfaction that brings. Our Placements Team will support you in finding and applying for a suitable placement that will support your professional development. Applying for a placement is a competitive process and the preparatory modules you will complete in years one and two are designed to give you the best chance of success in your placement applications. You will also be provided with dedicated workshops, 1:1 appointments with careers professionals as well as opportunities to speak with employers here on campus.
In your final year, you will return to campus to undertake a balance of academic and practical study, including Studio Practice, Professional Practice, and Dissertation.
