In this fun and dynamic course you will learn fundamental Flamenco dance moves, steps and rhythms in an energising and supportive atmosphere. Experience the rich complexity of this Andalucian Gypsy art form, and develop presence, fitness and co-ordination.

About this course
Embody the fundamental Flamenco dance posture and style.
Demonstrate with accuracy a selection of basic footwork combinations.
Use basic co-ordination of arms / feet / head / wrists / turns.
Describe the origins of Flamenco
Distinguish the 'compás' (the rhythmic pulse, the beat) of Flamenco
Perform a selection of short basic choreographies and dances.
A folder, notebook & pen
Women: Flamenco dance shoes - the tutor will provide information on shops / websites etc. alternatively,
strong court shoes with small strong heel - NO stilettos, sandals, platforms or trainers. Leotards / T-shirts
recommended - NO baggy sweatshirts etc. Comfortable trousers initially, Flamenco / flared skirts by term 2.
Men: Flamenco boots - the tutor will provide information on shops / websites etc. alternatively boots with a
Cuban heel or leather-soled shoes with slight heel - NO trainers. Comfortable trousers and a waistcoat.
In this practical and dynamic class, you will be taught Flamenco dance by explanation, demonstration, correction, copying, repetition & revision. Whole group work / small groups / pair work in class to consolidate learning. Support in taking notes so as to record learning and to enable you to practise steps between classes. Hand-outs / copies of written material to support practical learning. Optional visits to see recommended Flamenco performances in the London area. Work outside of class might include; viewing of Flamenco videos / DVDs in class / at home, home practice.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.
