Course Duration:
The course takes between 12 - 18 months to complete.The hours vary - candidates liaise directly with their assessor to arrange times for mentoring although you may need to come into College once a month.

Course Description
National Vocational Qualifications in Caring for Children and Young People focus on providing social and emotional support to vulnerable young people. Employers and inspectors across the UK recognise the NVQ and, in a sector that is underpinned by quality and standards, those workers holding this qualifacation are at an advantage in the employment market. By achieving this qualification, you are demonstrating that you have the required skills and knowledge to work competently and effectively with children and young people.

This NVQ is appropriate if you work directly with children and young people e.g. residential and day servise workers. It is also the approved qualificatian for foster carers. It is intended for staff delivering care and support, often without supervision - perhaps as a sennior/lead care worker or deputy manager. Candidates will have an amount of independence within their role and may supervise other members of staff.

How is the Qualification Achieved ?
All assessment can take place in your own work environment, focussing on your every day work activities. Your assessor will undertake direct observation in your work place and help you to compile a portfolio of evidence (consisting of observations, witness testimonies, work records and questions).

On Successful Completion of this Course
This Level 3 qualification will open opportunities to you for progression and specialisation within your career

Additional Information
Unless you are part of a large goup, your assessor will also set you work or questions to ascertain your knowledge and understanding.

The 4 core units are as follows:

4 Promote the well being and protection of children and
young people

You must also take 4 further optional units, to be agreed with your assessor
