CACHE Level 1
Introduction
This course runs over a two year period in conjunction with local schools and the college and is offered as part of the increased flexibility programme (suitable for Key stage 4 in schools).
Key Facts
* Gives you a basic introduction to the type of knowledge and understanding required when working within child care and education settings
* Provides the opportunity to develop basic skills in caring for children which can be used on a personal basis supporting parenthood or towards relevant employment or training
* Helps you to identify and achieve your own goals in education and training

* Unit 2 Human Growth and Development form Birth to Old Age
* Unit 3 Food and Nutrition
* Unit 4 Health and Safety Practices in Home and Group Settings
* Unit 5 Care of Children
* Unit 6 Play and Practical Activities
* Unit 7 Orientation to Work Programme
* Time is also allocated for tutorial support and exam revision/re-sit
Entry Requirements

• Basic level of Literacy and Numeracy

Duration
The course is for two years part-time. The first years attendance is on a Monday afternoon and a Wednesday morning. The final years attendance is on a Thursday afternoon and a Friday morning.
Assessment
Assessment -
* Portfolio assessment for units 2- 6
* Assessments graded Pass, Merit and Distinction
* Tutor report for unit 1
* Personal action plan for unit 7
* A multiple choice exam
* The course can be graded for units alone or as a whole award
Progression
Progression -
* After completing the course students can progress (with satisfactory grades and reports) to a level 2 course â€" Certificate in Childcare and Education or NVQ Level 2
* Students may also gain employment within a childcare and education setting and undergo further training within the area

Fees will be discussed at interview and with your school increased flexibility co-ordinator.
