What is the course about?
The course will provide students with the opportunity to deepen and broaden their business and management understanding and skills, and develop their ability to contribute effectively at supervisory to middle management levels.
A key feature will be to develop and apply Information Technology solutions to business situations, but the main emphasis is on developing the ability to relate theory to practice in all the main business areas, plus the capacity to reflect on personal performance and plan for future developments in both the workplace and career.

Course Structure
Part-time (two evenings a week at Selby College).

Entry Requirements
What will I study?
The first level will equip you with a solid understanding of the key concepts involved in the generic business functions of Marketing, Financial Management and Human Resource Management, plus an introduction to Organisations and Behaviour. You will also develop skills in Network Analysis and Modelling.
In the latter half of the course you will have the opportunity to develop these in more depth and will also look at the wider issues of the Business Environment, Business Strategy and e-Business.
A feature of Foundation Degrees is work based study. You will take Professional Development and Self Management modules plus a major Business Project based on your workplace. These will involve you demonstrating the ability to develop yourself and to tackle work-based problems.
Each student will have a tutor to support them with the work-based modules.

Learning Methods
Assessment is based on a mixture of assignments, case studies, research and problem solving tasks, presentations and group work. A common feature is assessment of your ability to relate theory to practice. Study skills will also be developed to enable life long learning and progression to Honours Degree Level if desired.

Assessment Methods
All by written assignment, presentation and contribution to discussions. No exams.

Fieldwork/Practical experience
Workplace based study and assessment are integral to the course

Progression Routes
A Foundation Degree is a valuable qualification in its own right and will assist in career progression at management level.
It will have a progression route to the Bachelor of Arts Business Management Degree with The University of Hull or other Higher Education institutions which is also available on a Part time basis as well as other Degree courses.

FACT: Graduates are more likely to be employed than non-graduates.
