Foundation Degree Historic Garden Restoration and Management

Introduction
This course encourages you to to develop an understanding of garden history and learn the specialist skills and knowledge required to manage and restore historic gardens. You will study garden history theory, reviewing the socio-cultural influences on the development of gardens and garden-making. There will be an opportunity to develop an understanding of historic garden restoration, conservation and management in relation to policy frameworks and funding sources. You will study a mix of theoretical and practical modules to further develop your knowledge.
Your understanding of garden design and restoration will be encouraged through design projects. There will also be an opportunity for you to develop individual interests and specialisms in garden history through the Professional Research Project.

The Foundation Degree is made up of 16 modules
Year 1

Length of the course

  • Full-time - 2 years including a 10 week work placement
