Is the course for me?
The Advanced Diploma in Society, Health and Development is a exciting new course that aims to capture the spirit of the four sectors: * Children and young people * Community justice * Health * Social care. You will learn about the principles and values underpinning many professions such as Social Work, Nursing, Paramedics, Physiotherapy to name a few. The course demonstrates how different public services work together in partnership for the benefit of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

What will I learn?
You will study a wide range of specialist units over a 2 year period and will complete an extended project based on a topic of your choice. This will develop your research skills which you will need particulary if you mean to go on and study at university. This course also offers opportunity to experience vocational learning through visits and short work placements. These will be arranged by your course leader who will take your personal preferences into account. Our aim is to equip students to make a valuable contribution to the community by development of academic and vocational skills accepted by both universities and employers. Unit 1 The Sectors in Context, Unit 2 Principles and Values in Practice, Unit 3 Partnership Working, Unit 4 Communication and Information Sharing, Unit 5 Personal and Professional Development in the Work Environment, Unit 6 Safeguarding and Protecting Individuals and Society. Specialist units include: Unit 1 Prevention control and impact of infection, Unit 2 Public health, Unit 3 Supporting adults through transition, Unit 4 Physiological disorders, Unit 5 Nutrition for Health & Social Care, Unit 6 Teamwork in the public services.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through various methods, including: Research projects, reflective practice, course work and in the case of 2 modules by exams. You will need to demonstrate that you are committed to study in order to succeed on this dynamic and competitive course. You need to be prepared to read, research and complete assignments during your time outside college and your progress, attendance and behaviour will be closely monitored.

What can I do after the course?
This is a level 3 course and is equivalent to 3.5 "A" levels which means you should be able to progress onto university to study for the degree of your choice. Alternatively if you wish to go on and enter employment the college has specialist staff that can help with reviewing the job opportunities avaliable, developing your interview skills, completing application forms and helping with writing your CV .
