WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
On this course you will obtain hands-on experience of computer operation, software, hardware, basic faultfinding, network and systems set up. The course is aimed at students wishing to start a career in systems support and helpdesk analysis.
WHAT DO I NEED?
WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
You will need to attend classes for more than 16 hours per week and have a high level of motivation and commitment. In addition you will need to spend 10 - 15 hours per week on coursework at home or in college, and attend residential trips and visits.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will study the following modules:
Planning for IT Deployment
System and Network Management
Providing Customer Support
Maintain Equipment Systems
Install, Configure and Integrate Networked Hardware and Software
Analysing data
Health and Safety
Microsoft Office Applications
ECDL
On your course you will have a tutorial period, which is designed to support your learning and assist your progress. In addition you will be required to participate in work experience within the college.
ASSESSMENT
You will generally be assessed on practical assignments, but three units have on-line examinations.

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
On successful completion you will achieve a City and Guilds 7262 Advanced Diploma for IT Practitioners. With the skills and knowledge gained you may take Comp TIA Network + as an independent programme.
WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
You will gain the skills to move into employment as a computer technician, while others have progressed to the Microsoft / Network + or CISCO Systems courses or to university degree courses.
