You will experience a range of Art and Design craft disciplines, learning the basic skills and Health and Safety processes in a number different craft and design areas. The learning aims will be to teach you how to use materials and processes safely and imaginatively. As the course progresses you may begin to specialise in one or two areas of Art and Design which most interest you. Towards the end of the course you will have assembled a portfolio of imaginative and exciting work.

About this course
Applicants must be at least 16 years old with 4 GCSEs at D or above or an appropriate foundation level qualification. Additionally, you should provide a portfolio of artwork which shows your interests in some aspect of Art and Design.

Is this course for you
This course is designed to introduce you to a variety of Art and Design techniques and processes, including Drawing, Ceramics, Jewellery, Photography, Graphics, Fashion and Textiles, 3D Design, Fine Art Painting and Illustration. You will also learn about historical and contemporary art and artists and designers and how to understand and relate them to your own work.

Your work will be continually assessed throughout the year.
What can you do after course
You can choose to specialise in one of the Level 3 courses offered by the College, for instance N D Photography or N D Fashion and Clothing. Alternatively you may choose to progress on to the National Diploma in Art and Design or the Advanced Diploma in Creative and Media which again will offer you a variety of pathways to further explore and develop the interests you have formed on this course.
Additional information
During the course you will visit art galleries and professional artists will give talks and show their work. You may also have the opportunity to have work experience in one of the creative industries in the area. Functional skills are also part of the course. You may be required to buy some art equipment and materials during the course. What
