Basic Plumbing Skills Level 2 Certificate
This vocational qualification is the first step towards becoming a qualified plumber. The achievement of this qualification is based wholly on College-based work, with no requirement for on-site employment. Principally designed as a pre-apprentices qualification, the course will provide the underpinning technical knowledge required for an NVQ Level 2 in this area. It is expected that most students successfully completing this course will progress to employment as an apprentice (or, in the case of mature students, employment in a junior position), completing NVQ Levels 2 and/or 3 on a part-time basis thereafter.

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should have:

- The College offers qualifications in four other construction crafts :
- Trowel occupations (brickwork)
- Painting and decorating
- Electrical installation
- Wood occupations (carpentry)
Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, normally held between January and September of the year in which the course starts. Applicants will also be required to sit a BPEC (British Plumbing Employers Council) entry test.
Assessment:
Students undertake practical assessment tasks when they consider themselves ready. Assessment is based on students demonstrating knowledge and practical competence. A minimum pass rate of 80% in 11 multiple-choice City & Guilds exams is required.
Progression Routes:
It is expected that most students successfully completing this qualification will progress to an apprenticeship (or, in the case of mature students, employment in a junior position), completing NVQ Levels 2 and/or 3 on a part-time basis thereafter.
