Is the course for me?
This foundation course provides the basics of beauty therapy and is an ideal stepping stone to anyone interested in working within the beauty therapy industry. You will study areas of health and safety, salon reception duties, prepare and maintain the beauty therapy work area, assist with and carryout facial treatments and assist with and carryout nail treatments. This is an ideal stepping stone towards full time NVQ beauty qualifications.

What will I learn?
You will be part of a team that will provide beauty therapy treatments within a professional training environment at 'The Academy' and will be supported by a team of experienced tutors. Training will be a mix of theory and practical lessons covering aspects of health and safety and anatomy and physiology. The course involves practical skills in prepare and maintain the beauty therapy work area, assist with and carryout salon reception duties, assist with and carryout facial treatments and assist with and carryout nail treatments. Key skills in communication and working with others are covered in lessons and production of a portfolio. Additional costs for kit approx £80.00 uniform, tabard and shoes approx £65.00 will be required and ordered via college. The Beauty & Holistic Department offers a full Virtual Learning Environment for all students to access from home should they wish to do so. This will be an invaluable tool for all learners across the section to guide through course schemes, assessment tracking and discussion forum. 100% Attendance for all sessions is a major requirement of this course as well as the completion of assignments, examinations and practical assessments and failure to comply may affect your achievement!

How will I be assessed?
You will be continually assessed via practical assessments, internal / external exams, assignments that are related to the units of qualification and production of a beauty therapy portfolio of evidence.

What can I do after the course?
If beauty therapy is the career for you then progression onto NVQ level 2 is the next step. Learners must achieve an English or literacy qualification before progressing onto level two in beauty therapy.
