Why should I study BTEC First Certificate/Diploma in Care?
A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to do more advanced work-related qualification.

A BTEC Diploma is the equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* - C is normally taken as a full-time course.

What will be studied on the course?
The course is made up of six units - two core units that everyone takes and four specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study a particular area in more depth.

Core Units taken are

  • Communication and Individual Rights within Health and Social Care Sectors
  • Individual Needs within Health and Social Care Sectors



Specialist Units are

  • Vocational Experience in a Health or Social Care Setting*
  • Human Lifespan Development
  • Creative and therapeutic activities within health and social care settings
  • The impact of Diet on Health


When does the course start and how long does it last?
This course will start in September and lasts for one academic year ending in June.

What qualifications are needed to do the course?

  • 4 GCSE grades D (which must include English and Maths or Science) or
