Why should I study BTEC Introductory Certificate/Diploma in Care?
The new BTEC Introductory Diploma is designed to encourage you to develop the personal skills and qualities you need for work, learning to help you achieve your full potential.
BTEC Introductory qualifications are intended as practical "hands on" programmes with each one taught in the context of real jobs and careers in a chosen vocational sector. This gives you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in the sector, and to acquire appropriate vocational skills.
This course will provide learners with the sufficient knowledge and understanding of the care sector to enable them to progress

- To further study on the BTEC First Diploma in Care
What will be studied on the course?
The course is made up of eight units - two core units that everyone takes, two compulsory Personal units and three optional units. The optional units enable you to study particular areas in more depth.
Core Units taken are:
- Starting Work in Health and Social Care *
- Working in Health and Social Care *
- Developing Skills in Health and Social Care
Two Personal Skill Units:
- Personal Effectiveness
- Social Responsibility at Work
Three Optional Units:
- Looking After Children
- Images of People
- Exploring Local Services
* denotes a unit assessed using an externally set Project Assessment.
When does the course start and how long does it last?
This course will start in September and lasts for one academic year ending in June.

Where is the course based?
The course will be delivered at our Consett Campus
How will the learner be assessed?
The Core and Optional units are graded P (pass). M (Merit) or D (Distinction). The Personal Skills units are designated pass or fail.
What progression routes are available?
A BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care prepares provides a good grounding to go onto a more advanced course such as:
- A BTEC First Diploma
- Another Level 1 qualification in an alternative sector CACHE Foundation Award in Caring For children or CACHE Certificate Childcare and Education Level 2
