CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Childcare & Education

Course Description: This course is designed to provide underpinning knowledge and practical training for students working to gain a 1 year qualification in the field of Childcare and Education.

Seven units are studied including the following areas of the curriculum: Health; Education and Social Studies. All students will be required to undertake practical placements within a range of childcare settings. Students can be placed in Welsh medium placements and can be assessed and receive tutorials through the medium of Welsh. All students will undertake key skills.

Consists of continuous assessment through an introductory task, three assessment tasks and a portfolio of work. Students are also required to undertake one optional unit, tested by an assessment task. It also consists of an external assessment. All students are required to attend at least 80% of the programme.

• The child care practitioner in the workplace

Entry requirements:

• 2/3 GCSEs at grade C or above and a good Record of Achievement or
• 4/5 GCSEs at grade D and a good Record of Achievement or
• A BTEC First Diploma in Health & Social Care at pass or above plus suitable references.

Progression/Career Opportunities: The opportunity to work in a supervised capacity as a:

• Support Worker or Nursery Assistant in a Day Nursery; Hospital; Workplace Crèche or as a Teacher's Aide within LEA schools.
• There is also the opportunity to progress onto the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (subject to meeting entry requirements).
