CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education

Length of Course: 2 years

Course Description: This course is designed for students to study the all round development and progress of children aged 0 - 16 years. It addresses the issues that affect children, their parents and carers and enables students, on completion, to fulfil all that is required of a qualified Nursery Nurse in all Childcare and Education settings.

Twelve units are studied including the following areas of the curriculum: Health; Education and Social Studies. All students will be required to undertake practical placements within a range of childcare settings. Students can be placed in a Welsh medium placement and can be assessed through the medium of Welsh. All students must undertake Key Skills.

Consists of continuous assessment through assignments, portfolio and an external assignment. There is also a continuous assessment within the childcare placement. All students are required to attend at least 80% of the programme.

Entry requirements:

• 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, to include English/Welsh first language or
• CACHE Certificate at merit or above and GCSE English at grade C or above or
• NVQ Level 2 Early Years Care & Education or
• BTEC First Diploma in Health & Social Care at merit or above and GCSE English at grade C or above.
• PLUS two good references and suitability demonstrated at interview.

Progression/Career Opportunities:

• To progress to Higher Education, for example Foundation Degree, Nursing or Teaching.
• The opportunity to work as a fully qualified Early Years worker in a Nursery; Day Nursery; Hospital; Workplace Crèche; Social Services; in a private family as a Nanny or Voluntary Childcare Organisations within the Community. There are some opportunities for positions within LEA schools.
