Is this course right for me?

You have an interest in the subject area but have no qualifications or experience in the subjects and enjoy practical learning.

What will I be learning?

You will look at a variety of subject areas relating to child care, health and wellbeing. In total you will study seven different units, these will include among others; Human Growth and Development, Food Nutrition and Play and Practical Activities. You will study each unit by looking at all elements from birth to old age. You may also get the opportunity to undertake some work experience in placement setting.
Whilst on the course, you will also develop your own personal development and build a portfolio presenting your progress on the course.

How will I learn?

You will learn in a variety of ways including; group work, tutor led discussions, hands on practical and interactive activities and tutorials. You may also take part in role play activities and carry out activities with children.
You will be assessed through completion of assignment work and a multiple choice exam. You may also have the opportunity to care for one of our interactive babies for a 24 hour period.

What else might I want to know?

You will be required to wear the section's uniform whilst undertaking practical activities.

You will be advised and supported with Criminal Records Bureau process and application upon entry, the CRB application will incur a cost which will need to be paid when sending your CRB application pack to the Criminal Records Bureau.

What can I do afterwards?

On successful completion, you may progress onto a level 2 course in either child care or health and social care. You may choose to complete a full-time programme or may find an NVQ or apprenticeship more suitable.
