What will I be learning?

This qualification covers the fundamentals common to all engineering practices, including health and safety requirements and communicating engineering information, whilst offering extensive choice and flexibility for you to demonstrate competence in a broad variety of engineering activities. These activities include learning about the properties of materials, the use of precision equipment and hand tools and the opportunity to explore a wide variety of ferrous and non ferrous metals.

How will I learn?

You will learn new skills a real mechanical machine shop working a variety of precise equipment. You will be assessed completing a range of tasks with the evidence collected into a portfolio. Underpinning knowledge will be delivered in well equipped specialist classrooms and ITC suites.

What else might I want to know?

This Level 2 qualification provides the ideal foundation for entrants into a wide range of engineering occupations. The qualification is developed to meet the needs of the engineering industry now and into the future. The programme will enable you to have an essential and interesting insight into the engineering industry.

The Engineering Section runs an exciting enrichment programme throughout the year. This include team building events, visits to trade shows and engineering events including the potential opportunity to be involved in an international engineering specific visit.

Opportunity to improve literacy and numeracy is given as Key Skills are an integral part of this qualification.

Students must note an additional cost will be charged for the provision of boots and overalls.

What can I do afterwards?

On successful completion of this programme, you can progress into employment as an Apprentice where, with a suitable employer, you can work towards a level 3 qualification.
