Childcare and Education Level 1 CACHE
The Foundation Award in Caring for Children (Level 1) will help you gain the basic skills of caring for children and how to support their learning.

What will I study?
This is a practical course which will introduce you to children's development and work in childcare settings.

You will study 7 units:

Unit 1: Personal Development:
Citizenship, personal action planning and an introduction to preparing for the world of work.

Unit 2: Human Growth and Development from Birth to Old Age:
The sequence of human growth and lifespan development.

Unit 3: Food and Nutrition
Principles of a balanced diet, food preparation and presentation.

Unit 4: Health and Safety
Personal hygiene, spread of infection, food storage and handling, hazard recognition and accident prevention, basic first aid.

Unit 5: Care of Children:
Children's basic needs, care procedures and routines for children of different ages.

Unit 6: Play and Practical Activities:
Play as part of development, different types of play, preparation for play and activities, role of the adult in play.

Unit 7: Orientation of work programme:
Basic principles of effective work with children, how to work in a childcare setting, career planning.

How will I be assessed?
A portfolio task has to be completed for most of the units. You will also have to complete a multiple choice examined question paper.

What can I do next?
You may wish to progress onto higher level courses like the First Diplomas available at LPSFC or the CACHE Level 2 in Child Care and Education.
