Course Description:
This college-based vocational course is suitable if you are looking to work with young children or wish to progress on to Higher Education.
Course Content:
This two-year course covers seven Core Units, to include:
· Positive Relationships for Children's Care Learning and Development
· Positive Environments for Children's Care Learning and Development
· Promoting Children's Development
· Reflecting on and Developing Practice for Children 0-8
· Safeguarding Children
· Promoting Children's Rights
· Children's Learning Activities and Play
and specialist units, which include some of the following:
· Research Methodology for Children's Care, Learning and Development
· Promote Wellbeing and Resilience in Children
· Psychological Perspectives on Children's Behaviour
· Diet and Nutrition for Children
· Physical Activities for Children
· Supporting Children's Literacy Skills.
You will undertake four practical placement settings. Attendance both at college and work placements is essential. The 800 hours of practical training gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your practical skills and ability to put theory into practice.
Assessment:
Assessment is continuous throughout the course and involves written work, presentations and placement work. Some class-based tests may also be undertaken.
Next Steps:
Higher Education, such as teacher training, diploma or degree in nursing, social work, degrees in social science or psychology. Employment as a nursery nurse or early years worker in social education and the health service.

Entry Requirements:
