Course Description
Full time programme which is split between practical and theory learning at level 3 aiming towards gaining employment in a supervisory role

Course Structure
The following units will be covered

Core units:
  • Stable and yard management
  • Horse feeding and nutrition
  • Animal science
  • Horse husbandry
  • Horse health
  • Industry experience in land based sector
  • Extra units:
  • Introduction to equestrian teaching
  • Riding and exercising horses on flat and over fences
  • Equestrian teaching
  • Grassland management


You will also study Key Skills which include Maths and English.

Course Assessment
There will be assessment by practical observations, written portfolio work and a short written examination

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

There is a compulsory uniform at a cost of approximately £60.00

Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

Students will be expected to have a placement within the equine industry which may be paid or voluntary
