You are expected to be available to attend college for two and a half days each Week

Course Description
The course is suitable for those who have a strong interest in horticulture or have limited horticulture experience. It will provide you with the skills and vocational qualifications so that you can work in a horticulture related environment. It includes a large amount of practical, outdoor training. You will also be required to attend key skills sessions up to level 1 after an initial assessment. You must be prepared to commit to 100% attendance

Course Structure
  • Maintain safe and effective working practice
  • Assist with planting and establishing plants
  • Assist with maintaining plants
  • Assist with maintenance of grass surfaces
  • Assist with vegetative propagation of plant
  • Assist with propagation of plants from seed


Course Assessment
Assessment through observed and written assessment and candidate compilation of portfolio of evidence

Course Entry Requirements
  • 2 GCSEs grades G and above
  • For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
  • Some knowledge of Horticulture is desirable


Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

There are a number of enrichment activities available during this course including educational visits and work experience opportunities

Course Progression
