What will I be learning?

The main areas covered are setting out and levelling brickwork and bricklaying different brick bonds and model walls from single skin walls to semi circular segmental arches, access platforms and basic scaffolding, blockwork and block cavity walls. You will also work towards the standard Health and Safety qualifications.

How will I learn?

In the first 12 weeks you are given demonstrations and then have an opportunity to develop your own practical skills. You are given assessments where you are expected to demonstrate competency of the unit qualification. You will complete both practical and theory tasks as well as examinations. The assessments will take place in the college workshop areas through observation of practical competencies.

What else might I want to know?

You will be required to provide suitable clothing for practical, workshop activities. Protective footwear must be worn whilst carrying out practical work. You may be required to contribute towards trips, visits or enrichment type activities.

What can I do afterwards?

On successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma you could further you academic studies by progressing on to Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork.
