This exciting new programme sets for the foundations for you to consider and progress to further education and training to become a qualified professional in Acute Health and Paramedical Services. It does not provide you with qualified paramedic status to achieve this you will be required to progress to specialised training.

As part of our selection process you will be required to attend a selection afternoon where you will demonstrate your ability and commitment to working in the acute health and emergency services sector together with a satisfactory reference, which will ask for information about your behaviour, punctuality and attendance. To join our programme you will need to have:

.A Level 1 qualification or equivalent;
.A minimum of Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy which will be assessed at interview;
.In exceptional circumstances where prospective students do not meet the minimum qualification requirement, accreditation for prior learning and experience may be taken into account.

Croydon College is committed to supporting employability and developing excellence within the Health and Social Care profession. Units on the course require applicants to work with younger children. All applicants will be screened by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) as this will help identify applicants who may be unsuitable to work with children or other vulnerable members of society.

BTEC First Certificate in Ambulance Care Assistance. For this award you will study:
.Introduction to Ambulance Care Assistance
.Providing Ambulance Transport Services
.Communications skills for Ambulance Care Assistance
.Moving and Handling Non-emergency patients in Ambulance Transport Services
.Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrilation
.Emergency Care Skills for Ambulance Care Assistance

BTEC First Certificate in Health and Social Care. For this award you will study:
.Communication and Individual Rights in Health and Social Care
.Individual needs in Health and Social Care Settings
.Vocational experience in a Health Care setting

GCSE short-courses in:
.Human Growth and Physiology
.Mathematics
.English

In addition, you will also have the opportunity to achieve a qualification in Functional Mathematics and English and the BTEC Award in Work Skills and other specialist awards to make up your unique learning package. These are integrated into your studies to give you the option to achieve additional qualifications to boost your opportunities for employment and further study.

To pass your programme you will need to have successfully undertake 60 hours of Work Experience in a Health Care Setting in the form of a 3 week intensive block. You will have the full support of our specialist Work Placement staff who are both highly experienced Health Care practitioners and work placement supervisors.


PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of the Diploma you have the option of going on to apply for formal training as a Paramedic, further studies of Paramedical Sciences, entry to a Modern Apprenticeship or employment in the Health and Social Sector or progressing to the next level of study (Level 3) on courses within this Department within Croydon College.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE End of module assignments, individual and group presentations and observations of professional practice. Some elements of the programme may be assessed by examination or portfolio.
EXCURSIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE Specialist industrial experience will be an essential part of this course.
