Course Description
Edexcel Life Skills - is based mainly around developing skills associated with everyday situations such as home management, staying safe, citizenship and personal care. Practical activities, small group work and work placement opportunities are the main focus of this course with basic skills embedded throughout.
Edexcel/NPTC (City and Guilds) Skills for Working Life - aims to give you the opportunity to develop skills in a practical vocational context in order to progress either within college or in to the workplace. You will be taught though a combination of practical activities relevant to your chosen pathway and incorporating basic skills along with health and safety, citizenship and personal care.
Course Structure
Each Edexcel course requires the completion of 6 units in order to gain the full award.
These units are made up of:
- 3 core units Health and Safety is mandatory
- Plus 2 others, 3 units made up from either 3 specialist or 2 specialist and 1 optional unit from the chosen pathway.
NPTC is credit based in readiness for Foundation Tier Learning and consists of Award and
Certificate levels.
Course Assessment
Observed competence of criteria and portfolio building of evidence. You are required to attend 100% of all sessions and not knowingly miss any sessions for anything other than exceptional circumstances or illness.

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.
Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.
Course Progression
Progression on to other courses either within Life Skills or Foundation Studies.
