Description of course:
The course aims to enable students to develop and demonstrate their skills so they can: talk to small groups on familiar topics, read and respond to a Shakespeare play, short stories, or short novels, poems and newspaper-type reports, write fiction and non-fiction items, arguments and reviews.

Method of assessment:
20% speaking and listening coursework, 20% reading and writing coursework, 60% end of year exams.

Progression opportunities and careers:
English GCSE, together with other GCSEs is the most frequently requested qualification for progression to AS and BTEC National certificates, as well as progression to training and employment.

Entry requirements:
A minimum of 2 GCSEs grade D or above

GCSE English at Grade D or above

The GCSE full time programme is primarily for 16-18 year old students who have previously completed a GCSE programme at school. The objective of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to improve the number of GCSE grades at C or above that they achieve. Students applying must be motivated and focussed on achievement.

All full time students will undertake a combination of additional qualifications that will enhance their study skills and those skills that will be important in employment.
