First Diploma in Art & Design (Introduction to 2D & 3D)

What will I be learning?

This is mainly a practical course.
Your initial activities will include development of skills in drawing, colour and three dimensional design.

After half term, you will get a chance to expand on your creative abilities while exploring a range of media, materials and techniques. You will work on research projects in order to learn to visualise your ideas with reference to work done by other artists, craftspeople and designers.

How will I learn?

You will work on a range of projects towards three major assessment exhibitions in December, March and June.

There will also be a range of critiques and presentations each term.

What else might I want to know?

- You will have the opportunity to learn from a comprehensive programme of specialist visiting practitioners.
- You will be invited to participate in our two day visit in October to specialist galleries in London.
- You will also get a chance to take a part in cultural vists abroad.

What can I do afterwards?

This introductory course is recognised as an equivalent to four GCSEs A* - C.
If you achieve at least a merit grade, you will be able to progress to National Award in Art & Design, subject to a successful interview and completion of a summer project.
