About this course
You will need to demonstrate drive and commitment as well as a good level of english and mathematics plus:
Work/life experience which will be taken into consideration or 120 UCAS tariff points (two A Levels at grade D AVCE DD, BTEC Diploma/Certificate Pass) where applicable

Course Description
The Foundation Year has been specifically designed with the University of Bradford to create local opportunities into higher education.
If you have not gained the A Level or Level 3 results you were expecting, if you feel you are not quite ready to enrol on an undergraduate degree programme or if you are returning to study and think you need some help to get up to speed with the demands of higher level learning before embarking on a degree then this course can help.
It is an extremely flexible programme that allows you to choose modules that interest you which can be tailored around your needs in terms of family and work commitments. There are also a variety of financial options available to you depending on your circumstances. By the end of the Foundation Year, you will be prepared, confident and ready to tackle the demands of undergraduate degree studies in a wide range of areas including:
· Business and Management
· Combined Studies
· English
· Midwifery
· Nursing
· Psychology
· Social Work
With further options being developed to provide many more choices.
Course Content
The year is divided into 2 semesters. You are required to complete six units in total.
Mandatory units include:
- Information Handling
- Foundation Skills
- The Effective Learner
Optional units from:
- Business
- Management
- Criminology
- Health and Diseases
- Introduction to Human Biology
- Introduction to Psychology
- Principles of Health and Social Care
- Sociological Imagination
- Writing in the City
There may be scope to offer other subjects if there are sufficient demands for them.
Course Length and Study Pattern
The course can be completed in one year or you may take longer if this suits your personal cicumstances.
Career Progression
Upon successfully completing the Foundation Year, you can move directly onto the first year of a variety of degree programmes, including the BA (Hons) Combined Studies delivered at Craven College and validated by the University of Bradford.
Assessment
Units are assessed by a mixture of coursework and examination.
