Gateway to IT and AdministrationCourse Outline
This 1-year course consists of Entry Level Text Processing and OCN study units. The qualification aims at providing progression onto college mainstream NVQ qualifications at Level 1 in Business and Administration or level 1 for IT Users. Training is provided to cover a range of basic administration and IT activities, which include for example, Text Processing, a Basic Awareness of Computer Equipment, Desktop Publishing, Basic Office Practice and Welcoming Visitors. Basic skills support in Literacy and Numeracy is available. You will also have the opportunity to attend Trade Fairs developing employability and entrepreneurial skills.

What will I study?
You will study: Award in Initial Text Processing, Basic Skills units and OCN units to include Basic IT Skills; A Basic Awareness of Computer Equipment; Using Powerpoint; Desk Top Publishing; Office Skills plus Wales, an Introduction to Welsh Language & Culture.

How will I be assessed?
Initial Text Processing Award is an external examinations held in June. You will be assessed through a programme of both practical activities and theory based assignments. You will be required to build a portfolio of evidence to support studies.

Career Opportunities & Progression
After successful completion of this course you can progress to the NVQ Level 1 Administration & Office IT or the NVQ Level 1 for IT Users.
