Students will study the National Diploma in Sport and if you have a handicap of 5 or below (males) or 10 or below (females), the England Golf Advanced Apprenticeship scheme. The modules include body in action, fitness testing, sports nutrition, psychology, sports practical, massage & injuries, training & fitness and sports coaching. You will receive regular golf coaching from a PGA.

About this course
You will need five GCSEs at grade C or above including English, plus trials at Churston Golf Club. You will need a golf handicap and a reference from your club.

What will I be learning?
Students will study the National Diploma in Sport and if you have a handicap of 5 or below (males) or 10 or below (females), the England Golf Advanced Apprenticeship scheme.
The modules include body in action, fitness testing, sports nutrition, psychology, sports practical, massage & injuries, training & fitness and sports coaching. You will receive regular golf coaching from a PGA professional at Churston Golf Club, and will be involved in matches and competitions.
The course will also allow you to undertake a combination of additional, nationally recognised sports qualifications. These will include the following:
Community Sports Leader
National Pool Lifeguard
Exercise and Fitness qualifications
Gym Instruction
First Aid at Work/Emergency First Aid
Literacy and Working with Others level 2 Key skills.
How will I learn?
The National Diploma is assessed by a range of methods including
assignments, reports, presentations and practical observations.
Assessment is continuous and you will be graded as pass, merit
or distinction. Lessons are both practical and theoretical and you
will also have the opportunity to undertake additional vocational
qualifications over your two years, including coaching qualifications.
What else might I want to know?
The Golf Academy is in partnership with Churston Golf Club.
You will represent the College in local, regional and national
competitions.
If you have a handicap of 5 or below (males) or 10 or below (females),
you can take part in the England Golf Advanced Apprenticeship
scheme. You will receive regular golf coaching from a PGA professional at Churston Golf Club and will be involved in matches and competitions.
What can I do afterwards?
The course is suitable for those wishing to pursue a career as a Golf
Professional, in Sports Coaching/Management or progression to
Higher Education at South Devon College or at University.
