Is the course for me?
The course is an intermediate vocational qualification which will focus on the development of the underpinning principles and practical skills required in the hairdressing industry. It is designed to deliver a high level of occupational capability which will allow all students to learn, develop and practice skills required for employment progression in the hairdressing sector. The programe has been approved by HABIA, the standards setting body for hairdressing and designed by City & Guilds.

What will I learn?
The course consists of both practical and theory areas of hairdressing. Practical activities will take place in a simulated salon and all learners will practice a range of techniques to develop their skills and progress to perform competent assessments. The theory sessions are structured to back up your knowledge gained on the course by presenting work packs and building a portfolio. Mandatory Generic Units: 201 - Working in industry, 202 - Health & safety, 203 Client consultation for hairdressing services and 204 Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp. Optional technical Units: 205 - Cut women's hair, 207 - Colour hair and 220 - Hairdressing design skills

How will I be assessed?
Continuous formative and summative assessments will take place on the course in both practical and theory units by observation, performance, question & answer and completion of work packs.There is also a City & Guilds multiple choice online test covering the background knowledge for all mandatory 'generic' units.

What can I do after the course?
Progress on the next level of learning in hair and beauty, media or performing arts. However, all completed units on the course is transferable which will enable all students to move forward on a career path for aspirations.
