Hairdressing NVQ Level 3 Full Time / Day Release

Course Aims:
The course is designed to enhance the skills of students already qualified to NVQ Level 2. The course is highly practically-based but evidence must be collected in written form and a portfolio of evidence built to include written tests, assignments and consultations. Whilst some units are mandatory, students are able to select certain optional units to suit their own specific needs.

Course Content:
Monitor procedures to safely control work operations.
Provide Hairdressing Consultation Services.
Creatively cut hair using a combination of Techniques.
Colour hair using a variety of techniques. Provide colour correction services.
Creatively style and dress hair. Creatively dress long hair.
Promote additional products and services to clients.
Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities.
There are a variety of optional units which will be discussed at Induction.
A total of 9 units are required to complete NVQ Level 3.

Progression:
The course can lead to a range of occupations in the industry: senior stylist, salon supervisor, technical representative, teacher trainer, workbased trainer, cruiseliners, self-employed, salon owner, health farms or television.

Awarding Body:
VTCT

Exam:
Direct observation of practical work, oral questioning, written tests and assignments.

Professional Appearance:
All students are required to wear black, covered-toe shoes and suitable black & white, smart clothing to maintain a professional appearance and comply with awarding body standards.

Other Costs:
All students require a full hairdressing kit - details can be discussed at interview.
15 College registration fee- all full time students
16 VTCT Registration fee - all students over 19
60 exam fees - all students over 19
Trips / visits - to be advised.
A Level 3 Theory book approx 30 - payable to the department in September.(New edition)

Duration:
Either:
1 day a week at college (Monday day & evening), if in full time employment in a Hairdressing salon.
or:
Full-time (15 hours) to include a minimum of 1 day work placement in a salon (mandatory)
Students must also study additional Key Skills if they are not already qualified to the required standards in IT, Maths and English.
