Course Description:
This programme is designed to meet the requirements of engineering trainees undertaking formal training in engineering with optional bias towards either production or technician. It is also designed to meet the requirements of local and national employers seeking to employ new engineering staff.
Course Content
Includes City & Guilds 2800 Level 2 Certificate in Engineering and NVQ 2 Performing Engineering Operations:
Mandatory teaching and assessment covering: Health and Safety, working efficiently and effectively, engineering technology, communication in an engineering environment, engineering calculations, planning engineering activity and bench fitting
Optional Units: Technician and Manufacturing
- Computer Aided Manufacture and preparing and proving CNC programmes
- Producing Engineering Drawings using a CAD system
- Manufacturing Technology
- Machining by Milling
- Machining by Turning
A mix of traditional and directed self study methods are used. Most teaching is undertaken in dedicated engineering workshops and facilities.

Assessment and Progression:
Successful completion of the course will allow progression to ongoing full time level 3 study on BTEC National Diploma or part time study on the City & Guilds Certificate in Engineering Level 3 or BTEC National Certificate.

Fees:
Students on a full-time course of 12.5 hours a week who are aged under 19 on 31 August are entitled to free tuition and no exam fees provided they are European Union Citizens. Students who are currently in Year 11 and will be aged over 16 on 31 August may be entitled to an Education Maintenance Allowance paying up to £30 per week.
Mature students who are in receipt of certain benefits may be entitled to full or partial remission of fees. The regulations on student finance are detailed and subject to change.
