Level 3 (Advanced) Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment

Course Details

The Diploma provides a flexible and balanced curriculum which will enable students to gain a real understanding of the construction industry. You will have the opportunity to experience different styles of learning in different environments with an emphasis on practical learning. Employers will be involved to provide up to date projects, mentoring and work related experience. There are several elements to the Diploma qualification: - Principal learning - Additional and specialist learning - Functional skills in English, Maths and ICT - Personal, learning and thinking skills - Work experience - Student projects The Principal learning in all levels of Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment focus on three main themes: Design the built environment: You'll develop an understanding of the extent and significance of the built environment and what shapes, develops and influences it. You could, for example, produce a report about urban design, where you include proposals and strategies for improving infrastructure and transport services in your area. This will involve explaining regulatory requirements and other legislation that is part of the planning process. Create the built environment: You'll gain great insight into the different construction and built environment industries. You could, for example, do site visits to construction sites, prefabrication plants, architects' studios, local authority planning offices and transport departments. Value and use the built environment: You'll learn how site developments affect the communities that use them. You could, for example, do surveys and opinion polls to see what the public think of a development. How will I be Assessed? Principal learning assessment is carried out through coursework which is internally and at least one of the units is externally assessed by the awarding body. The project unit is coursework based and marked by the college. Functional skills are assessed by 3 one hour exams which will include multiple choice questions. Additional learning will be assessed depending on which course you will follow.
