About this course
You must be 16 or over and preferably hold one of the following: Edexcel (BTEC) First Diploma, NVQ Level 2 or 4 GCSEs at grades D and above, which must include English and Maths. A strong interest in horses and motivation to work with horses is required. Students will be assessed on their riding skills at interview.

Course description
This is a one year course supported by a period of industrial placement. It provides the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue careers in competition yards, riding schools,
thoroughbred, breeding or a wide range of ancillary industries.
The purpose-built facilities at Common Leys Farm offer students practical experience within a commercial enterprise. In addition to a wide range of riding horses you will also have the opportunity to handle foals, young stock and brood mares. The course comprises one core unit which all students study, plus a further five optional units which allow you to pursue more specialist career paths.
You may keep your own horses at the college stables on working livery if required.
Core Unit: Stable Skills
Option Units: allow you to develop specialist skills in a variety of areas, for example: equitation; practical stud management; nutrition; behaviour and welfare; industry experience.
Final award
Edexcel (BTEC) National Award in Horse Management. It would also be possible to train for BHS examinations whilst attending the course.
