Full Time National Extended Diploma in Photography

Course Description:
It is a two year course which offers an introduction to photography and provides an educational foundation for a range of careers. The qualification has the same academic value as three A levels and will give you the academic points which are necessary to get you onto a degree course.

Who is the course for?

The course is designed for people who have achieved at least GCSE standard in an art or design subject and want a career in photography or a related subject.

Content
The course introduces students to studio and location photography and provides the opportunity to practice a range of specialisms including documentary, fine art, editorial, advertising and fashion photography. You will work in a group or around 25 students and your weekly timetable will be 16 hours. There will be lectures and demonstrations where we show you how to do things, and lots of practical work in the studio.

To become good at what you do practice is essential and we will give you additional work to do outside of your timetabled hours. You should plan to spend at least another 6 hours per week of your own time on course work.

3

Course Type:
Full Time

Assessment and Progression:
100% coursework. Work is assessed regularly throughout the course using two types of assessment: - one to one meetings with lecturers with the opportunity to discuss progress. - formal assessments where work is submitted for grading.

You will always know how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve your work.

What do we look for in an interview portfolio?

We would like to see examples of your photographic work at a variety of levels, even your family album can be appropriate and can show your photographic abilities and potential. In addition, we would like to see a broad range of art and design work which could include drawings, story boards, painting, graphics, and written work. Photographic work should be carefully mounted and displayed to show your presentation techniques.
