Course Details
The Level 1 provides a comprehensive taster in engineering for those who may be considering going on to working in engineering once leaving school. This qualification can be completed successfully in the college environment without the work-based evidence. Units include:- Working safely in an engineering environment Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering Using and Communicating Technical Information Wiring Electrical Equipment and Circuits Assembling Electrical Wiring Support Systems Maintaining Electrical Equipment and Systems Learners will also complete a substantial portfolio of evidence as part of their assessment and will work towards/complete a Level 1 Numeracy and Literacy qualification. Assessment: Each Unit of study e.g. Wiring Electrical Circuits, contains a list of tasks or competencies that have to be successfully completed to the required standard. These tasks can be assessed in a number of different ways such as being observed by a qualified assessor or checked via relevant written work in a logbook. You shall complete a substantial portfolio of evidence of work during the course that will consist of exercises, logbook entries, photographic evidence etc. Once the required number of Units has been successfully achieved you will be awarded an NVQ at Level 1 in Performing Engineering Operations.

There are no formal entry requirements but you will need to have an interest in learning practical skills within an electrical workshop environment. All places may be subject to internal assessment at the start of the programme.
All candidates must supply evidence that they have undertaken a colour blindness test and that they are absent of colour deficiency. The Ishihara colour test can be arranged with any optician. A satisfactory reference may also be required.

Progression:
Progress onto the NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations and then possibly onto an Apprenticeship programme and a City and Guilds qualification with Hull College.
