Provides a broad based introduction to the requirements of the Outdoor Adventurous Activity environment.
Students will develop skills, knowledge & understanding relevant to this employment sector
Students have the opportunity the work with local schools.
All students are encouraged to gain a relevant work placement.
Career Prospects and Progression
Successful completion of this City & Guilds NVQ will qualify students to progress onto the NVQ L3 Outdoor Education course. Students could also seek employment in the outdoor activities industry.
Modules
The course is structured to include: - - College based theoretical and practical studies - Practical skills development Work Placement Units of Study: - - Prepare for a session - Lead activities - Conclude and review a session - Promote safety in the sport and activity environment - Contribute to the work of your team - Set up, take down and store equipment - Look after participants who are away from home - Support the protection of children from abuse - Contribute to adventurous experiences Key Skills will also be developed in: - - Mathematics - English - Information Technology - Personal skills.---Students will also be encouraged to attain National Governing Body Awards - MLTB - Single Pitch Award Climbing (SPA) Training - First Aid - Kayaking WCA Star Awards - Orienteering Level 1 Coaching Certificate
Method of Assessment
The course is continually assessed through practical observations, personal competency & assignments. A personal portfolio of evidence is required. No external exams are taken.
