Course Description
The diplomas are designed to prepare people to enter the construction industry in their chosen craft. They have been designed to be progressive, building on skills and knowledge from level to level. The core includes health and safety, building methods and construction technology. The new diplomas cover a wider breadth of skill, knowledge and understanding, covering planning, estimating and new methods of construction.

Course Content
You will study theory and practical sessions in:

• Storing Materials and Equipment - how to order materials required for a particular job. How to store materials safely using the correct lifting technique
• Working Efficiently - teamwork, organising workloads and associated paperwork, keeping and monitoring records
• Preparing the Work Area - the correct way to use dustsheets, remove blinds, curtains, carpets, shelves, hooks and keeping the area clean
• Preparing the Surfaces for Painting - stripping wall coverings
• Applying Paint Materials by Brush and Roller - using various paints on ceilings, walls, window frames, doors and metalwork by roller and brush
• Hanging Basic Wallpapers to Wall Areas

Additional Qualifications Key skills - Application of Number and Communication (unless exempt) Enrichment Environmental Sustainability Level 1 and 2

Course Length and Study Pattern
You will be expected to attend college for 2.5 days a week for 1 year.

Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating

Work Experience
The potential to offer work placements with local firms

Assessment
You will be assessed throughout your course on your job knowledge and your practical ability. Your tutor will assess your practical skills in the workshop through a series of practical assignments. Your job knowledge is assessed in theory sessions and online multi-choice test. Throughout your course you will also produce a portfolio of your completed work.
