You will normally need to have 5 GCSEs at grades A* C or a BTEC First Diploma and Merit/Distinction or Pass with an additional GCSE. You should also have a keen interest in the performing arts. Evidence of taking part in performing arts would also be an advantage.

Course content

On the course you will develop practical skills and gain a wider understanding of the performing arts industry. You will work on 18 modules which are divided into Core and Option areas.
The Core
This element includes the following modules:
Performing Arts in Context.
The Performing Arts Business.
Performance Workshop.
These modules allow you to place the theatre we see today in context through a detailed understanding of the leading performers, and practitioners of major movements in theatre history. It will also help you acquire a thorough understanding of the areas and functions of the industry as a whole. Research, presentation of findings and written work are an essential element of the course. Alongside this you will be involved in a final performance of work through the following modules:
Rehearsing.
Performing.
Options
You will study a variety of skills based modules through different projects. This element may include the following modules:
Devising.
Theatre for Children.
Contemporary Theatre Performance.
Musical Theatre Performance.
Singing 1 & 2.
Acting 1 & 2.
Drama Improvisation.
Jazz dance.
Movement.

How Will I Be Assessed?
The BTEC National Diploma is a 2 year, full-time course which is based on continuous assessment rather than final examinations. Hard work and commitment are essential throughout the entire course if you are going to complete the Diploma successfully.

What Could I Do Next?
A successful completion of the BTEC National Diploma course will enable you to apply for courses in Drama at Higher Education institutes. Some students also progress onto Drama and Dance schools for professional training.

Are There Any Special Expenses?
During the course you will be involved in theatre visits, the cost of which will be discussed with you by your tutor. For the movement element of the course you will need loose fitting clothes.
