Course Description: National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) are based on showing that you are competent in your job, can work to the standards expected by employers and you have developed and practiced your skills to gain the relevant knowledge needed for the job. Modules:
- Food Preparation and Cooking and Food Service - These units cover the components of practical and theoretical work in relation to the Catering and Hospitality Industry.
- BTEC Award Customer Service Level 2 - There are three units required in order to obtain full certification.
In addition to your NVQ you will complete a range of additional qualifications including:
- Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering
- A selection of Key Skills qualifications at Level 2
- OCN Level 1 Qualification in Portfolio Building
- Learn Direct IT1 Presentations or equivalent
Entry requirements: 2 GCSE passes grades D or above together with the NVQ Level 1 qualification. Mature students who do not have these formal academic qualifications but have a keen interest in Catering and Hospitality are welcome to apply. ALL applicants will need to attend a formal interview at the college. If successful, students are expected to comply with the College Code of Conduct, of which one aspect of eight includes a minimum requirement of 80% attendances at all classes.
Uniform: As there are some practical elements to the course. It is essential that a uniform is purchased and worn in full to all practical sessions. An estimated cost for the Chefs & Front of house uniform including shoes is approx £180.00
To support classroom activities and aid in completion of coursework a range of trips will be incorporated into the programme of study. A full list will be supplied on completion of interviews.
Progression/Career opportunities: On completion of this qualification students may consider progressing onto a higher level qualification at Level 3 in a vocational area. Alternatively, successful students may seek employment in a variety of sectors related to The Catering and Hospitality Business.
