About this course
There are no formal entry requirements. There are 3 levels within Vocational Options and an initial assessment will determine your Individual Learning Plan and the level at which you will you start: Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2 or Entry Level 3. You should also demonstrate a willingness to participate in the course activities.

Why should I study Vocational Options (Entry Levels 1, 2 and 3)?
The Vocational Options course is at three levels and each enables you to gain the skills and qualities required to progress to:
- A Foundation Vocational course
- An NVQ Level 1 course
- Entry to Employment/Pre-Apprenticeship training
- Employment
- Voluntary work
What will be studied on the course?
You will study core and optional units linked to vocational skills. Some of the topics covered are:
- Health and Safety
- Employability Skills & Work Preparation
- Confidence, Assertiveness and Independence
- Working with Others
- Enterprise
- Healthy Lifestyles
- Literacy, Numeracy & ICT
At the third level you can also choose to study in one or more of the vocational areas in the college. These areas include:
- Health and Social Care
- Childcare
- Catering
- Admin and ICT
- Art
- Hair and Beauty
Your timetable will also include tutorial and enrichment activities
When does the course start and how long does it last?
This course starts in September and lasts for 1, 2 or 3 years depending upon the level you enter at.
What qualifications are needed to do the course?
There are no formal entry requirements. How will the learner be assessed?
Activities are practical and evidence is collected in various ways including video, observation, written work, assignments and photographs. Evidence is used to build up a portfolio of work.
How much will the course cost?
If you are doing cookery as part of your course you will be asked to contribute £1.50 per week towards the costs of ingredients.
There are no other costs involved in your course, but you may be asked to contribute to the expenses of visits, trips and other activities.
What progression routes are available?
On completion of this course you can progress to:
- the next level of the Vocational Options course
- into a Foundation Level Course, Entry to Employment or an NVQ Level 1 course
- directly into employment or voluntary work
