Course Content

Course Features

Considerable practical experience with dogs,rabbits and guinea pigs and some with cats, birds, fish and reptiles.

Assessment is mainly carried out while undertaking practical tasks with some oral questioning.

Health & Safety is an important part of the course and will be assessed both practically and with short on-line multi-choice tests.

One unit gives the student a chance to gain research skills by collecting evidence of the life cycles of a range of wild and domestic animals.

Work experience can improve employment prospects

Visits to a range of animal establishments widen the learning experience.

A useful portfolio of all the course units acts as a basic reference resource for future courses or employment.

The course also includes basic skills literacy and numeracy and keyskills IT together with the Welsh Baccalaurate.
Career Prospects and Progression

This course is a basic introduction for anyone intending to make a career in the Animal Care industries. Successful candidates may progress to employment or to the National Certificate in Animal Care.
