Further Mathematics
You must take AS/A Maths with Mechanics with Further Mathematics.

What is this course about?

In combination with Maths with Mechanics this is the double Maths course for those who wish to study more Mathematics, to a higher level. It is particularly useful to those who want to go on to study a degree in a mathematically related discipline. The Further Maths course is more difficult than the Maths one and is therefore suited to those students who are able mathematicians.

To study Further Maths you must take the Maths with Mechanics course as well.

What topics will I study?

AS units:

Decision Maths- the study of networks, algorithms (methods used to solve problems) and linear programming.

Further Pure Maths- complex numbers, matrices, series, calculus, algebra and graphs.

Statistics- the study of data, its analysis and the conclusions that can be drawn from it.

A2 units:

There are 2 more Further Pure units and another Decision Maths module to be completed in the second year.

This is in addition to the two Pure Core units and Mechanics module that students take as part of their Maths course in each year (please see information sheet for Mathematics).

How will my work be assessed?

In the first year students will take the Decision 1 and Statistics 1 modules in January with the Further Pure 1 unit in June. In the second year the Decision 2 module and Further Pure 2 are taken in January with Further Pure 3 in June. There is no coursework for any of the modules studied.
