German Improvers

Level: This course is for those with some knowledge of the language.

What is the German Improvers course?
This course assumes some previous knowledge of German, which may come from completion of a beginners German course, experience of learning the language at school or time spent living in Germany. The course will help you develop practical comprehension skills through reading and listening to the language.

• Describing house and home
• Making arrangements by telephone
• Expressing opinions and preferences
• Coping with medical problems

Teaching and Learning
The course will encourage you to speak the language from the very beginning. You will work in pairs or small groups to practise expressions and sentence patterns and develop practical comprehension skills through reading, listening to recordings, watching DVDs and using the Internet and the language laboratory.

You will learn vocabulary and structures that are needed for practical communication while visiting the country or entertaining speakers of the German language.

You will meet material in the form of everyday dialogues, interviews of native speakers and written texts such as advertisements and tourist leaflets, which provide a wealth of words and expressions. As they arise in context, the grammatical structures necessary for effective communication will be explained and practised.

You will be expected to set aside at least one hour a week between classes for private study.

Assessment details
There are no formal assessments. You will receive a College certificate on completion of the course.
