About this course

This course is for people who are thinking about starting their own business or have an idea for a business and need help to research, plan and develop a business plan.

You should have a good level of literacy as you will need to read handouts independently and produce a business plan. You should also be fairly confident using a computer and have a good understanding of the internet.

Course programme

How will I learn?

Your tutor will teach you by group discussion and individual tasks. You will receive handouts and tasks to complete, with one-to-one help as appropriate. Your tutor will also introduce you to Newcastle City Learning’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

You will be assessed by questioning, discussion and completed tasks done in class and then marked by your tutor. Samples of your work will be handed in at the end of the course.

What equipment or materials will I need to provide?

All course materials will be provided by your tutor, but please bring a pen and notepaper as you will probably find it useful to take extra notes. Also bring a file to store your handouts in.

What other support is available?

Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify. For further details please ask when enrolling.
