Course assessment:
There is no coursework involved and the course is 100% exam assessment.

Both AS and A2 consist of two units so at the end of each year there will be two exams, each lasting one and a half hours.

What can this course offer me?
The actions of politicians affect all our lives, and in a democracy we all have the right to participate in Politics. Studying Politics at King George V College will boost your political awareness skills and enable you to cast your vote more effectively in elections.
This course will also be a lot of fun you are given plenty of opportunities to put your views across, as Politics is such a vibrant and relative subject it is essential that your views are listened to and respected. Participation in lectures and debates are actively encouraged.It will also provide you with a highly regarded academic qualification, and one or two interest packed years.

What will I learn?
Activities & Events

A residential visit to the Houses of Parliament in London takes place after AS exams every summer. The trip has been running for several years now and is extremely popular. Regular guest speakers visit college including in recent years MEPs, all parliamentary candidates for Southport at General Election time, local councillors, academic lecturers and pressure group spokespersons.

What Makes a good Government & Politics student?
Although there is no particular GCSE in Politics. A very healthy interest in current affairs and a genuine desire in how the country and world is shaped is certainly an advantage.

Which other courses link well with this subject?
A vast range of subjects combine well, the most common being History, Economics, Sociology, English, Law, Philosophy and Business Studies. Providing you have a genuine interest in Politics any combination is fine.
