Who is this course for?
This Part-Time course is for Beginners or Intermediate Level users of computers. We are looking for committed Learners who wish to attain new skills in graphic art. This course is designed for those who wish to develop Graphic Design skills using Apple Macintosh computers and Software either for a particular career or for a leisure interest. The skills gained through the course can be applied to your business career development, portfolio building for Further or Higher Education or for your own special interest. You may wish to combine this course with another of our Short Courses BTEC Photography course or the Art Workshop. This Evening course would also help develop skills for day time full time courses in Art, Design or Media courses, ICT or Web Design courses.

What are the entry requirements?
You should be familiar with how to operate a computer (PC or Apple-Mac) to a basic level. You should have an interest in either graphic or communication graphics, page lay out, visual art, photography, animation and / or the internet.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2

  • You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

  • You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.


What qualification will I receive?
You will receive an NCFE Level 2 Foundation Certificate upon completing the course. You will also receive tuition leading to further skills development in Photoshop Software and how this software is combined with Flash & Dreamweaver.

Where can it lead?
You will be able to use this qualification and the work produced for it to improve your Graphic Design skills for employment or for other Part-time courses. You may wish to progress to a higher level full-time BTEC Certificate or Diploma course or for our Access to Higher Education courses in Art Design or Media.

What will I study?
You will study the operation and application of Photoshop software along with some use of Flash and Dreamweaver. You will study how Graphic Products are produced from the 'Brief' to Final Presentation. You will be introduced to professional practices and the work of professionals working in the Creative Graphic Industries. The Course for one year.

How will I be taught?
You will be taught through Demonstrations, Software Tutorials, Seminar Discussions, Research and through your own experiences, supported and guided by your Lecturer in partnership with you. This course is Apple-Mac Based.

How will I be assessed?
You will Assessed through the quality of your work produced on the course. You will have set Assignments and Tests and you will be Assessed according to set Grading Criteria. The Pass Rate for this course is high for those who attend and complete.

What support is available while I am on the course?
You will receive support and one to one guidance to overcome any operation problems with Software. We like to know, in confidence, about any personal or health issues so that we can plan your work around them, so that you can achieve the qualification. The Apple-Mac Suite is Wheelchair accessible. Large print Handouts and reading materials can be given according to your needs. Student Services can also support you in other areas of need.
