Hairdressing - City and Guilds NVQ Level 1
Summary
You will be working in a realistic environment treating clients to a commercial standard. The methods of study are open learning packages and practical salon workshops.
About the Course
G1: Enables you to understand the part you will play in Salon Health & Safety.
G2: You will assist in the reception area of the Salon greeting clients, answering the phone, booking appointments and taking messages.
G3: You will begin to gain an understanding of teamwork and how important you are in the effectiveness of the team.
H1: You will learn the skill of shampooing, which includes a massage followed by a conditioning treatment. Finally you will complete the treatment by drying the hair into a chosen style.
H37: Support the stylist in the hair colouring process including removal of the colour after processing and condition.
H5: Prepare for hairdressing services and maintain work areas.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in the College's competition Festival of Colour.
A work experience placement will be required.

Practical - observed performing skills
Written - by set assignment, tasks and client studies
Oral - questioned verbally
Written assessment - perming/colouring, shampoo and conditioning

Are there any resources to obtain?
You will need to purchase a uniform for approximately £28 with black trousers or skirt with low-heeled fully enclosed shoes. Students will also have to purchase a kit costing approximately £200 to use on the course.

A Fee: £690.00, B Fee: £ 690.00, C Fee: £10.00
Are there any other costs?
See materials required - order forms for uniform and kit are available through college if required.
If students fail the examination there will be a re-sit fee of £20.60.
There is also a consumables cost of £30.

What facilities can be used on this course?
Purpose built Hairdressing Salon with specialist facilities and up to date equipment. Students will be taught by commercial experienced staff.

What next?
Progression to NVQ Level 2 in hairdressing as well as seeking part-time employment in a hairdressing salon.
